Published in 12 parts over 6 volumes, Willis’ work is a vast collection of biographical notices of some of the most notable Irish figures in history. Volume IV Part I was published in 1842 and continues the Political series covering the 17th Century and begins a new Ecclesiastical series This part continues with the ecclesiastical section and Jeremy Taylor. Large parts of this volume are given over to Narcissus Marsh, Archbishop of Dublin and founder of Marsh’s Library, and Jonathan Swift, Dean of St. Patrick’s and author of Gulliver’s Travels. Among the other included are William King, Archbishop of Dublin, Thomas Sheridan and Dr. Patrick Delaney. The parts are being made available here as they appear in the bound versions.
