Published in 12 parts over 6 volumes, Willis’ work is a vast collection of biographical notices of some of the most notable Irish figures in history. Volume IV Part I was published in 1842 and continues the Political series covering the 17th Century and begins a new Ecclesiastical series This part begins with the outstanding Irishmen in the political series, including such people as Sir Richard Cox, William Molyneux and Richard Coote, Earl of Bellamont. The Ecclesiastical series begins with Thomas Jones, Archbishop of Dublin, and has lengthy sections on James Usher, Primate of Ireland, William Bedell, John Bramhal, Primate of Ireland and Jeremy Taylor amongst others.
