Published in 1884 this is the 4th volume of Archaeological and Historical Collections relating to the Counties of Ayr and Wigton in Scotland. The volume covers a wide range of historical, archaeological and genealogical topics relating to both Ayr and Wigton. The text is accompanied by several illustrations, particularly of archaeological artefacts discovered in the counties. The subjects covered in this volume include the discovery of bronze celts and a bronze ring at the Maidens in Ayreshire, Ayrshire crannogs, Military reports in the districts of Carrick, Kyle and Cunningham, the church of Dunlop, illustrated notices of ancient bronze implements of Ayrshire, the Logan Charter, the Heraldry of Wigtonshire, ancient plates belonging to the Kirk-Session of the parish church of Kilmarnock and the Corshill Baron court book. The book is completed by an extensive index. Also included is a listing of the council of the Ayrshire and Wigtonshire Archaeological Association as well as a full listing of all members for 1884.
