Rest in Peace Dame Barbara Windsor

Barbara Windsor was a figure through all our childhoods from the Carry On films. She loomed large in EastEnders as Peggy Mitchell - her voice bigger than her stature.

In Winter 2019, we included a feature story in Irish Lives Remembered magazine. When we first researched Barbara's family history for WDYTYA, and later writing the feature, everyone we spoke to was equally enthused about the actress and the private person behind the persona.

The artist, Adam Dant, whose work featured in the Irish Lives article, told a lovely story about meeting Barbara in 2014 at a lunch in Soho. She was warm, friendly and professional, and had time for everyone. We used an original photo of Adam with Dame Barbara at that lunch, on the front cover (Winter 2019).

Irish Lives Remembered, and the Irish Family History Centre extend their sympathy to her family.

Fiona Fitzsimons, Research Director of the Irish Family History Centre, writes a fascinating article on researching the Irish family history of  Barbara Windsor in the Winter 2019 Issue (47) of Irish Lives Remembered, which you can read by following the link here:
