First Quarter of Talks for 2020

If tracing your family tree or getting stuck into history is your New Year’s Resolution, you’ve come to the right place! We already have some great talks lined up for the first quarter of 2020.

Sunday, 26th January 2020 - 2:30pm

‘Genealogy Workshop: Connecting to Explore Your Irish Roots’

For Tradfest 2020, Historian and Genealogist Declan Brady will be delivering an introductory session on genealogy, to provide you with some hints and tips on how to get started on your own family history. You’ll also receive a month’s free access to FindMyPast (Pro/World), to activate whenever you are ready to begin the journey, and there will be plenty of time for questions at the end of the session!

Sunday, 8th March 2020 - 2:30pm

‘Genes That Fit: An Introduction to DNA and Genetic Genealogy’

Who do you think you are? Taking a DNA test can help you uncover the past in ways that were not previously possible.

Come and learn about the types of DNA tests that are available, how they can help you and what you can achieve. DNA tests can verify your existing family tree and also help you to get back further, beyond paper records.

Real examples will be given of how DNA tests have been used to reach back in time and enhance your research with whole new verified branches of your tree. There will be plenty of time for questions at the end of the session.

Martin McDowell is the Education and Development Officer of the North of Ireland Family History Society, the administrator of the North of Ireland DNA Project and is a member of the International Society of Genetic Genealogists.

If we live too far away to attend the DNA Talk on March 8th, will a video of it be posted online?
